The Amity of Kirkwood
A while back, I wrote about homeowners, Kris and Johnathan, and their charming neighborhood of Kirkwood. It is such a great area that I couldn’t resist sharing a few favorite spots of one of Kirkwood’s newest homeowners, Rob. While Rob may be a new homeowner, he is not new to this area. Having grown up around Kirkwood, he knew it to be a strong and safe community with stable real estate values. I asked him to give me one or two words to describe Kirkwood, and of course he used a word that I had to look up on Dictionary.com. However, when I found the definition, I couldn’t agree more.
am·i·ty Noun: A friendly relationship.
Kirkwood is a place that fosters amity. From the beautiful old homes adorned with front porches for chatting with the neighbors to the quaint downtown streets with outdoor dining, festivals and benches for watching the trains go by, there is sense of fellowship in this tight knit community.
Rob shared a few local places in downtown Kirkwood that are great examples of locally owned resaurants and shops that make it fun to walk around.
Lets start with PJs Tavern.
PJs Tavern has been in business since 1996. Filled with St. Louis memorabilia, this family-friendly restaurant boasts a Sports bar, Dining Rooms and Outdoor dining. Locals love the St. Louis style pizza on the menu which can be bought for $5 Sun-Thursday from 9pm to close. What a deal!
Another really cool place in Kirkwood is Moonbeams. Moonbeams is located at 124 West Jefferson in the heart of downtown Kirkwood. It offers a unique array of gifts, custom floral arrangements, monograming, personalized items, and much more.
In 2010, the owner opened another store right across the street called Found by Moonbeams, a store that specializes in unique old items. They repurpose, restore and salvage antiques and vintage items.

Finally, The Kirkwood Farmer’s Market is definitely worth a mention. Open year-round, this farmers market offers much more than just produce.
There are so many things that differentiate the Kirkwood Farmers Market from other markets in town. First, they have great hours. Unlike many markets, you can stop by this market any day of the week to get your fresh produce, flowers and more. Next, Tropical Moose Snow Cones, arguably the best snow cones in town. Lastly, the family friendly events this farmers market puts on are second to none. You can visit Santa in the winter, there is a Pumpkin Patch and Fall Festival in the fall, live music on Saturday mornings in the summer, and a peach festival in July.
Thanks Rob for sharing some great Kirkwood spots with me. Enjoy your “not-so-new” neighborhood, it is a great place to call home!
